Summer Symposium 2026: Rethinking textile waste
The TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH summer symposium was held from 20 to 31 July 2026. Between the two weeks of courses, the international WEBERMARKT (Weavers' Market) with its fibre zone took place on the weekend of 25/26 July.
In terms of content, this year's summer symposium was held under the motto RETHINKING TEXTILE WASTE. It revolved around current issues surrounding overproduction and recycling, questioned the handling of fast fashion and production waste, and focused on ideas that treat waste as a valuable resource. Several exhibitions and evening events shed light on various facets of this extensive topic. And of course, the course programme also related to it: whether weaving, braiding, knitting or sewing with textile scraps, our course instructors stimulated the participants' creativity and breathed new life into much seemingly useless material with fresh ideas!
In the first week of the course, on Monday we offered a full-day excursion to various textile companies in the Mühlviertel region, which provided production waste for the courses. Some courses that used these materials therefore only started on Tuesday this year.
