The Sun Hat – An Introduction to the Processing of Straw Plaiting

This course will give you an insight into the craft of millinery and hat-making, and you will learn the basic techniques. The focus will be on working with straw braids. We will work with and experiment with materials such as Sinamay, Parasisol, Panama, and others – from shaping the material, sewing in the headband for size, trimming the brim, and decorating, to the finished hat. As a result, each participant will be able to take home a sun hat made to their own measurements and design.
Group of participants: Hut lovers and interested parties
Requirements: Good basic knowledge of hand and machine sewing
Number of participants: max. 8 people
Course times: Fri: 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Sat: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM, Sun: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Course fee: 230 Euros, for students 210 Euros (excluding material costs)
Course Leader: DIDO VICTORIA SARGENT, USA/Germany/Austria
Born in Los Angeles, California in 1985; completed a three-year millinery apprenticeship with Zussa in Berlin in 2008, worked as a costume assistant and designer in Linz, Upper Austria from 2009 – 2013, and has been employed as a milliner in the costume department at the Landestheater Linz since 2013; creates handmade unique pieces and custom designs under the label „Dido Victoria Millinery“.
