Finding the common thread? Literature meets textile collage
Fri 02 – Sun 04 April 2027
Where does the path lead if we follow the red thread? We draw inspiration from literature and illustration, browse through picture books, and embark on a shared search for textile elements and structures in images, as well as for literary narratives that incorporate textile techniques.
The course weekend is structured in two parts: first, we will intensively focus on images and texts, and on the exchange and our discussions concerning specifically selected (children's) literature. Around the middle of the course, poetry will be introduced: a colourful mix of poetry collections, some of which are aimed at children, alongside those that appeal to adult readers. We will select texts that personally move us. Building on these poems, we will create textile collages in the second part of the course, using a free mixed-media technique. Our collages will continue the stories of the texts, expressing what we read between the lines.
Collaborative associative viewing, talking, and doing is the central aim, much more so than the finished objects.
