Low tech - High end: weaving pattern with simple tools
Mon 27 - Fri 31 July 2026
Warp faced compound twill and tabby (Jin), Han-Qi (Han damask), Samitum, Taqueté, Kuvikas (summer and winter), Lampas (Beiderwand) and patterned double cloth are all historical high tech weaving structures that more or less went out of use many hundreds of years ago.
Especially those that were used in the beginnings of weaving patterned silk fabrics. The weaving tools and the methods are gone, but the structures are simple. We will set up looms and weave samples of these structures, sometimes with small adjustments of the loom. The easiest way we can produce patterns is by the help of sticks. In the theory part of the workshop all the recipes and binding structures will be explained and put into a historical context.
