How can an idea be printed onto fabric using simple means? How does screen printing work?
This weekend, we'll learn the steps of manual screen printing on fabric: direct printing with stencils, creating a stencil, preparing the screen, exposing the screen, and printing on fabric. This course aims to impart the know-how for manual screen printing with and without exposure, as well as to awaken the joy of creative experimentation. We will explore the possibilities and limitations that this craft technique offers for realising your own fabric designs. The necessary stencils will be designed and prepared by hand from paper. Using paper cuts, collages, drawings, etc., we will create solid colour or detailed, abstract or figurative motifs, which will then be printed in small runs on fabric and textiles brought by participants.
Those who have found it enjoyable can purchase squeegees and screens from the course instructor at a low cost at the end of the course, so that they can continue printing independently.
