S.01
The windmill knot Experimental exploration of the technique & development of own baskets
Mon 20 - Fri 24 July 2026
The course will begin with an introduction to the technique of windmill knotting. Using different coloured strips of paper, the system will be tested and the structure of the resulting surface illustrated. In the next step, methods will be shown to further process these experimentally and to connect them three-dimensionally. The realisation of an individual basket can be envisaged as well as the production of different surfaces for own projects. The aim is to fully engage with the windmill knot and explore it in a playful way.
Suitable materials are flat tapes that are stable and flexible at the same time. These include, for example, webbing, tapes made from tear-resistant paper, leftover plastic packaging (strapping), thin leather straps, tetra pack strips and much more that would otherwise end up in the bin!
