About us
We have been organising courses in a wide range of textiles for more than 35 years. Over the years, we have built up a large network of top-class course instructors who enrich our programme every year. Sound expertise, teaching skills and a friendly atmosphere are just as important to us as a good mix of established experts and young talents who contribute new topics.
Every year in July, we organise a variety of 5-day courses (Mon - Fri), which are embedded in the TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH summer symposium. This major event also includes exhibitions, many supporting events and the international weaving market with fibre zone. In addition, since the founding of the TEXTILE CENTRE HASLACH, many weekend courses have been offered throughout the year.
What began on a small scale has now grown into something big. The initiative is still run by a team of volunteers, who are now professionally supported in their daily work by employees of the Haslach Textile Centre. The basic concerns have remained the same: to make textile culture visible in high quality, to impart the relevant knowledge and to continue to weave the thread of tradition in a variety of ways.
Our roof: The Textile Centre Haslach
The Textile Centre Haslach is housed in a former textile factory and combines a weaving museum, various workshops and modern production facilities under one roof.
It builds on the rich textile tradition of the Mühlviertel and uses history as inspiration for shaping the future. In addition to educational programmes in the museum and various courses, modern equipment is available for collaborations and artist residencies. Various educational institutions such as the University of Art and Design Linz also regularly hold block courses in jacquard weaving and tufting. The European Textile Network ETN has also been based at the Textile Centre Haslach since 2019.
The Textile Centre Haslach was opened in 2012 and has established itself as a textile competence centre at the interface between regional development and international networking. The Weaving Museum in the Textile Centre Haslach received the major Austrian Museum Award back in 2015. Since 2016, the centre has also been on UNESCO's international register of good practice examples for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
