Understanding the knitting machine - loop formation

Machine knitting allows you to quickly and directly realise your own inspirations and opens up many design possibilities! This course is aimed at beginners in the use of knitting machines and anyone who would like to try out a new textile technique.
We look at the handling of the machine, understand the functional principle and explore the various pattern possibilities. In addition to the technical know-how, individual ideas are also discussed and everyone is encouraged to playfully try out different patterns, effects, colours and yarns themselves. Thanks to the different machines and approaches in the group, everyone can benefit from each other. Those interested in computer-aided design will receive an introduction to the knitting design software ‚DesignaKnit‘. At the end of the course, all participants will take away many pattern pieces and much more experience and food for thought. If available, you are welcome to bring your own knitting machines. There are also several knitting machines available on site.
Group of participants: Designers, artists, people interested in textiles, knitting beginners
Requirements: Basic knowledge of working with textile materials, hand knitting skills and experience with machines (e.g. sewing machines) are an advantage
Number of participants: max. 8 people
Course language: German, English if required
Course times: Mon - Thu 9:00-12:30 and 14:00-17:30, Fri 9:00-12:30 and 14:00-16:00
Course fee: 420 euros, for students 380 euros (excluding material costs)

Born in Klosterneuburg in 1976, trained as a gold and bead embroiderer in Vienna, training and diploma in textile design in Vienna; since 2001 projects as a freelance knitwear designer, national and international exhibitions, collaboration with artists and designers from the fields of fashion, fine arts, costume, furniture and jewellery design; numerous courses, exhibitions and scholarships, including 2010 guest artist at the CTCM Montreal, Canada.
