W30

Fri 04. – Sun 06 June 2027

For millennia, people have been knotting and weaving fabrics to wrap themselves in, or to make decorative objects like blankets, curtains, jewellery and more. In this workshop, we will combine two of the oldest textile techniques – knotting and weaving – and jointly create an expressive wall hanging full of structure, depth and texture.
We begin with the knot art of macramé, which has its origins in the Arab world (miqrama = „knotted veil“). With simple basic knots, we build the framework of our work. In the second part of the course, we bring life and colour into play with selected sustainable plant fibres and soft wool yarns – we will weave intuitively using specially chosen weaving techniques, experiment with materials, and give our piece a unique personal touch.
Whether we are gaining our first experience in textile design or deepening existing knowledge, at the end of the workshop, we will not only have a handmade work of art in our hands but also the know-how to continue combining macrame and weaving.
